Open Question: Would You Buy a Horse that Had Laminitis in the Past?
I found the perfect horse for me...except that he was ill with Potomac Horse Fever about 9 months ago. As a result, he had developed laminitis in one front foot. He's better now. Clean x-rays, etc. I am waiting to hear back from the vet on his future as a hunter/jumper - but I'd love to hear some opinions from others with experience in this. Thanks! If it matters, he did not founder or develop laminitis from diet. It was mild in one front foot as a complication from Potomac Horse Fever.
Open Question: What is my horse worth?
Jazz Me is a 12 year old bay TB. He raced from age 3-5 and was retrained for hunter/jumper work. He did well on the local circuts for several years (up to 2'6") In the last year I switched him to eventing. He could easily go back to hunters or compete in both disciplines. He has schooled up to novice x-country complexes without a problem. Jumps up to 3'6" and could go higher. Has shown and placed well over 2'9" jumper courses and will do his first Beginner Novice competition soon. He is extremely honest going at any fence of any size. He doesnt have solid flying changes when asked but will do them on his own while cross country and but gets them over the fences or with a quick simple change. He are learning to go on the bit and will advance quickly with a consistent work. He is a Pony Club mount and has taken me from my D-1 to my C-1 and will be used for my C-2 in December. No bite, kick buck or rear ever. Stands, ties, clips, loads. Barefoot and never lame. Pics and Video below Video: (he trots a jump in the jump off which was really my fault. I gave him a horrible turn and a funny angle to jump off of. He never though of refusing though) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLKSfTDA2yM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGgRJ5hrPbE Pictures: http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/orderpage.aspx?pi=09IK00AB270002&po=2 No conformation shots sorry. I am not planning to sell him now but will need to before college. This post is mostly out of curosity. I am also considering getting him insured when we move up to higher level eventing. Bobae, glad you liked the videos. I have a couple years (sophmore next year) but I just wanted to see what people thought he was worth now as compared to what I paid origionally and also to see what price range he might be in if the market doesnt improve. I plan to ride in college and would consider donating him to the school but I live near a school with a team and the horses are drugged before anyone gets on them. Everyone no matter how calm gets Ace before lessons and shows. I dont want he to have to deal with that. Taking him with me isnt an option because of the expense. My parents have a small farm and we discussed retiring him early but decided his personality was better suited to having a job to keep him occupied. I dont want to lease him out to some kid because I dont think he will get appropriate care. Parents are a lot more willing to be involved in the care of a horse that they have a large amount of money invested into. THANKS to everyone for their imput!
